Misson Statement: Excellence Without Exception

Ø       Vision Statement: In partnership with families and community, Zion Elementary School District 6 strives for educational excellence through:

Teaching,  Empowering,  Advocating,  Motivating

Zion Central Middle School is a diverse community of learners. There are approximately 600 students, 7th and 8th graders, enrolled. Central's faculty is dynamic and innovative, currently organized along the lines of a team concept, where instructors for a given group of students are put in cross-functioning teams. These teams meet regularly to discuss student issues and concerns.

The extended curriculum includes an integrated technology class, an interdisciplinary Fine Arts course, and a reading intervention program.

To encourage good behavior, staff and administration participate in Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). This program is a proactive system based on rewarding students for appropriate behaviors versus a strictly reactive system based on negative consequences and discipline.

The Student Services Coordinator forms yet another bridge from Central to the community. The Student Services Coordinator is a liaison between Central students, staff, administration, district administration, and the community. The coordinator works with the Student Support Services Teams (SSST). The team includes the students' faculty team, social worker, administration representative, special education representative, other relevant professionals and the child's parent/guardian to discuss and implement strategies to help the student succeed in school.
